365 days

It's been one year since Preston came home from the NICU/ICC. On New Years Eve last year, I spent the night in the hospital, doing our "overnight." At the stroke of midnight, Preston and I went to Kylin's room and visited her and we called Dad who was at home writing a paper for school. On New Years Day we brought Preston home and our lives were dramatically different!

As preemie discharges go, Preston's was easy. He came home on breastmilk fortified with Neosure (for the extra calories) and Iron drops and a multivitamin. He had no equipment to manage, which helped to ease the stress a little.

Wow! It was hard to imagine how things would be a year later. It was so hard to leave Kylin in the hospital when we brought Preston home. I felt loads of guilt, but we returned to visit her everyday until she finally got to come home.

Kylin was a very fussy baby in the NICU and ICC. When I would call in the morning to see how her night went, I heard how much cuddle time she got during the night with the nurses and I worried about how we were going to manage with 2 babies. Preston was a relaxed baby in the hospital (except when they poked him). He seemed to be the "easy baby." Boy were we mistaken! Eventually Kylin had a hernia repair and her demeanor changed dramatically for the good. Poor baby was crabby because she was uncomfortable but it took us and the dr.'s awhile to figure it out.

Now as I sit on the computer and listen to squeals of delight and "I want my way" upstairs, I am so thankful that we have 2 happy, healthy babies home with us as we begin another year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!
