We are now settled in our "temporary" home until we purchase a new home. The whole transition of moving out of our house, traveling for the holidays and beginning anew has gone quite well for all 4 of us.
Kylin and Preston have handled all of the recent change very well, and they seem to be adapting to their new bedrooms and are sleeping well. I was so worried that we would lose our "routine" in the past 2 weeks, but so far, so good.
Here is a summary of our recent happenings.....
Dec 21 and 22 loaded moving truck, and stayed with Uncle Mike, Aunt Teresa and Logan (otherwise known as "LoLo")
Dec 23 moved, unloaded and began getting settled
Dec 24 travel to Grandma and Grandpa G's (4 hours away), both kids had lots of fun, but it got to be a late night for them
Dec 25 travel to Great Grandma G's ranch(1 1/2 hrs away from Grandma and Grandpa G's) where we saw lots of relatives
Dec 26 Preston traveled back to the ranch with Dad and Grandpa G Preston got to help feed cows and got to ride in the tractor with Grandpa! Dad very much enjoyed taking his little man to experience the great open spaces and nature. Preston saw pheasants, wild turkeys, deer, cows, pigeons etc. and Grandpa was quite impressed with Preston's keen sense of awareness and how "he didn't miss a thing." Mom, Kylin, and Grandma G hit the after Christmas sales and Kylin slept for 2 hours in a shopping cart!
Dec 27 travel back to LoLo's house to stay overnight
Dec 28 closed on our house that sold in 2 weeks time, YEAH!! Returned to our "new" place of living, a rental twinhome.
Dec 29 took kids sledding for the first time, they somewhat enjoyed themselves until they face-planted in the snow
Dec 30,31st continue getting settled, stay in from the very cold temps outside (currently 1 degree with 20 below windchill). We were all in bed prior to midnight (we didn't even stay up to see the ball drop in NYC, so that means we were settled early!)
January 1 to be determined....
Wow just typing all of that activity was tiring, no wonder we're all still exhausted!
Kylin and Preston were great travelers and used all of our roadtrips to catch some zzz's. The first night we stayed at our new place, we walked the kids from room to room and showed them familiar toys, objects, etc to get them acquainted with their new surroundings, and it seems to have been a smooth transition. They caught on to what we were doing, and were quickly pointing things out to us and telling us what they found as they looked around.
Preston has begun talking alot more in the past 2 weeks. He is beginning to put 2 words together, but he still requires reminders to use his words for things rather than his temper. While he stayed with Grandma and Grandpa K (during the unpacking process), Grandma taught him to say "okie-dokie", which he says quite well, but he intentionally says it through his nose and it sounds hilarious. He has a new "gadget" to add to his list of obsessions, the clock. He has a book that has clocks in it, and now he walks all around to find every clock that he can and says "tick tock." Preston's hot temper seems to be improving and it seems that he is not into things that are off limits quite as frequently as he used to be. Dare I say he seems to be calming down a wee bit? That may be a stretch!
Kylin is also talking a good amount, and has recently added "KyKy" (Kylin) to her list of words. She is putting 2 and 3 words together and says some 3 syllable words now too. The other night she was looking for something and she asked us "where'd it go?" Very cute! Kylin is now developing a serious 2 year old attitude, and says "no" to everyone and everything. She has decided that Grandpa G and Grandpa K are her buddies. She bonded with both over the holidays, and said "bye, bye Grandpa" to both when we left their respective houses. Aunt Kari and Aunt Jana both received the cold shoulder from Kylin over the holidays. Aunt Kari tried taking a picture of Kylin, and Kylin said "cheeeese, no!" and turned her head with attitude, refusing to pose for the camera. Uh Oh, Mom's attitude in a little body!!! During the moving process, Mom and Dad were quite liberal with allowing Kylin to have her "pap-a-piiiier" (pacifier), but soon we must crack down and wean from the green plug.
In the past few weeks with houses decorated for the holidays, Kylin and Preston loved to view the lights. As we would drive through town and see lights, they would both say "whoo-wee!" and then continually ask to see "more, more" (in sign and verbally). It is so fun to see their reactions to all of the traditions of the holidays and hopefully next year Mom will get to decorate for the holiday rather than pack and move!!!!!
Both kids are beginning to use their manners by saying "please and thank you" appropriately. They have difficulty using those nice words with each other, and prefer the grab and run method of getting what they want; something to work on.
On the day that we closed on our house, Kylin and Preston got to play with their friends Abby, Kathy and Micah. Micah is still upset with us for moving away, but hopefully she will be able to forgive us someday!
Tomorrow through Friday, we will take the kids to their new daycare to get acquainted with their new playmates and care providers. Hopefully this will be a good transition for all of us! Next week will be interesting as we adapt to a new routine of getting everyone out the door by 7:30 am, 5 days a week. Mom is still carrying guilt for leaving her kids in daycare 5 days a week, but also looking forward to the challenges of a new job.
I will post pictures of our travels soon!
