Daycare Update

This past week, the kids went to daycare for 3 partial days. They had a very hard time when I exited, and cried very hard but settled quite quickly. They did a wonderful job of helping Mom to feel horrible about leaving, but the providers called me within 10 minutes to reassure me that they had settled and were playing and participating with "circle time." Yesterday they went outside to play in the snow and Preston made sure to keep up with the older kids (3,4 and 5 year olds) on the snow hills, while Kylin preferred the low-key version and she hung out with the younger kids (18-22 month olds). She stayed nice and close to the providers in her comfort zone. After the trip outside and some lunch, it was time for them to settle in for their first naptime at daycare. I was worried about how naps would go, since this is their first time taking naps on the floor on their mats. They were both exhausted, and fell asleep easily. Children are so adaptable! Both kids completed their first "art" projects and we have them on the fridge for all to see. Bringing their projects home reminds me of the box of keepsakes that my Mom saved for me all of these years and I realize that my babies are growing up quickly before us. When I returned to pick them up, the report on their day was very nice to hear. They ate well, played nice, slept well etc., what more could I ask for?!

I begin this coming week with mixed emotions. I am excited to begin working again and challenging myself, but also the mommy guilt weighs heavy on my mind. I know my kids won't be "ruined" because I chose to work, but I do worry about all of the ways it will affect them. This will be a big adjustment for all of us in this family! One this I am completely confident about, is the quality of the daycare my kids are receiving.
