Birthday #2 is Upon Us!!!!!!!!

This past weekend, we held Kylin and Preston's 2nd Birthday party(early). They seemed to enjoy themselves by opening cards, presents and smashing birthday cake (and eating some also). We did an Elmo theme, since Kylin really seems to enjoy talking about Elmo lately. Preston recognizes Elmo but doesn't seeem real interested yet. We enjoyed having Grandma G, Uncle Mike, Aunt Teresa and cousin Logan and Aunt Kari here with us to celebrate.

"Why's everybody singing?"

Opening presents is serious business

Here are our latest "stats" for our nearly 2 year olds.......

Kylin weighs 21 lbs. 7 oz. and is 31 1/8". At the age of 2, Kylin is wearing a size 4 shoe and is wearing 18 month clothes in most brands. It's fun for me to finally be able to look in the toddler area of the store rather just in infants for clothing.

Kylin continues to eat pretty well for us and in general eats more than Preston at most meals. She really only throws up at daycare (long story) and if she is sick. Speaking of sick... Miss Kylin had her 4th bout of tonsilitis 2 weeks ago, and we returned to the ENT so that he could see her when she was actively sick. The ENT agreed that her tonsils definitely have to go. They smell horrible when she is sick and they are "necrotic" in the Dr.'s words. She will miss the festivities of her 3rd Halloween by having surgery that day. She will have both her tonsils and adenoids removed. She will spend the night in the hospital so they can moniter her. One positive about her recovery will be the fact that we can keep her hydrated by using her G-tube. Mom is threatening to wean her of her pacifier, but it definitely won't be until after her surgery!

Kylin is doing so well with talking and she tries to repeat most words and even some phrases. One of her favorite words is "airplane." She has a vocabulary of about 15 or so words and is gaining new one's everyday. She is able to identify several objects she sees, and names them. She is great at telling me what most animals say i.e. cow, duck, puppy, lion, kitty etc. She is able to point out about 15 body parts and she tries to identify most of them with words. She loves to sing with me when we sing ABC's and cheers when we get to the end. When we go outside, she loves to go to visit her friends Abby (12) and Micah (8) up the street. Both kids can say their version of Abby, but they haven't figured out how to say Micha's name yet.

Kylin isn't adapting to daycare quite as I thought she would. She is very whiney and doesn't eat or sleep well, which of course is great for the mom guilt factor. She has thrown up 1 of 2 feedings everyday (except one) since she started daycare 6 weeks ago. At daycare Kylin will only nap if Preston is in the same room as her, and at home they nap on opposite ends of the house and wake easily to the sound of the other. When she gets home, she is her normal goofball self and she seems happy. What's a Mom to do???!!!

Preston's latest stats are 21 lb. 13 oz. and he is 32 3/8". He currently wears a size 5 1/2 shoe, and most of his clothes are 18 months also. He is tough to find clothes for, because he is longer and slim. He is slowly growing, but I have no idea how. His lack of eating has been a concern for a few months now and it sure doesn't seems to be getting better. We continue to give him 16 oz. of milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast, add cheese, butter, dressing etc. to everything he eats, but he doesn't really seem to have any favorite foods other than "nacks" (snacks). He loves crackers, fun fruits, cookies etc. He still eats fruits and vegis well, but meats and breads are not his favorite things. I continually am stressed about his lack of intake, but we keep plugging along and he is slowly gaining and growing so I am happy that we aren't at a complete stand still.

Preston is a talking machine lately. He says many words and identifies things all of the time. He is beginning to ask questions sometimes and is very cute to watch and try to figure out what he wants. He often times will put his palms of his hands up and say "at?" when he is looking for someone (usually dad or Lucy, the dog next door). When I ask him questions like "where is dad?", he will say "bye, bye." Lately, he comes to us and will walk us to another room to show us something (e.g. Kylin into something she shouldn't be, a mess that they made etc.) He is a little into telling on people. If someone does something to him (scolds him or takes something away), he will come to me and point at the person that did something and he her tries to tell me something but I usually can't understand it . It is so cute to watch their little minds work at this age! Preston is very good at pointing out many body parts and he knows animal sounds very well also. We are trying to count and Preston has "2", "bive" and "nine" down. One day he said them with me in the right order but he hasn't done it again.

Preston has adjusted to daycare quite well, and he doesn't cry when I leave and he is excited to see us when we pick him up. He plays with the dog at daycare and loves to throw him his toy to fetch. According to our daycare provider he plays nice with the kids and isn't overly aggressive. I was worried about Preston adapting more than Kylin, and he proved me wrong. He is becoming a big boy right before us!

After everyone left the birthday party on Sunday, Preston got ahold of the knife used for cutting the cake and he used it to literally open up the screen. He put two nice big slices in the middle of the screen door of our dining room. Luckily he wasn't hurt, he just had to figure out how to put the knife to use. I have a feeling this will be just one of many things damaged in our house for the next 16 or so years!

We have been working on saying "trick or treat"for the upcoming holiday, and they both have their own version of 2 "t" words. Preston is going to be a Toucan and Kylin will be a hospital patient. One costume purchased, the other covered by insurance (haha). Not really funny, but realistic.

This past weekend we went to the local pumpkin patch and the kids had a great time. They ran through the maze and climbed the bales with assistance and they also rode the train (Preston didn't enjoy the ride). They checked out the pumpkins, and they also got to visit with the kitties, sheep, cows, chickens, horses and dog in the barn. It was a fun afternoon for all of us until it was naptime.

Where's Waldo?????

Waiting for the Autumfest parade to start

"Dad did that loud band go away yet?" Preston was afraid of the loud bands in the parade.
