Summer's here!!!!!!!!

We have been out and about enjoying the outdoors as much as possible this week since we finally have a break in the rain.

Kylin and Preston tried out the backyard pool and wow did they love it! Kylin giggled the first few minutes and they both began splashing and splashing and throwing the "splat" balls in and out of the pool. They tend to be a little nervous in the bathtub, so I thought the would be a little cautious out in the pool, but I was wrong. They were not ready to come inside, but the sun was pretty hot, so we had to go indoors to protect that fair complexions.

Both kids have been walking on their tip toes, which is funny to see. Preston especially does it when he is trying to spy things out of reach on the counter or table. Marching is a favorite of Kylins' and she lifts her knees nice and high. Maybe she will be a future Rockette or an aerobics instuctor?!

Kylin is continuing to try to repeat much of what we say and likes to say "UH!" for "uh-oh". We are working on the second part of that one. She has the biggest love of animals. If she sees them in person or on TV her face lights up and she points and talks and gets so excited. Near our house there are some horses on a hill, and when she is outside she always has to look to see if they are up on their hill.

Earlier this week, we had our Early Intervention speech therapist here and she is pleased with the progress both kids are making in the language department since they are repeating sounds and trying to say words. Neither of them has a great list of words they can say, but we are getting there. At this visit, we talked about some of the developmental things that are "next," and we began talk about preschool next year. UH! I can't even think that far ahead. I can't believe that it is possible that my little one's would be ready for "school" already. I look forward to them having more contact with peers and feel that the preschool environment will be good for that. I have heard from other Mom's of preemies how hard the "transition" time is, and now I am beginning to understand that a little better. I don't know where we will be next year at this point and what their capabilities will be, but I have every reason to believe that they will do fine. In the back of my mind I hear the statistics regarding preemies and the likelihood of learning disabilities, difficulty with social interaction, etc. that all of those studies regarding preemies tell you lie ahead. For now we will live in the present and watch what our preemies do and work with them to make sure they can be all that they can be!!!!!
