The Joys...

Kylin is continually entertaining us with her developing personality . She is doing better at walking with less and less assistance, and just started standing on her own today. It won't be long now! Her favorite thing to do is to make new sounds with her lips, tounge and voicebox. She still only says "mom", but she has figured out how to stick out her tounge on command and she loves to pat around her mouth while saying "ahhhh" (not sure what you call that noise). She also loves to flick her lower lip and make noises that way also. She has suddenly turned into this little girl who looks for attention. She used to just be so quiet and interacted only when she felt like it, but now she is always talking and singing and crawls up to me and demands attention. This is so nice to see her developing socially! Kylin loves to sing and dance to music on the radio and she has such a cute girly voice, but it has a tendency to get very loud. This past week she has decided that bedtime is a great time to wind up and play. She gets really giggly and the other night she was chasing Preston around (he on foot and she crawling). Once she "got him" they both giggled and continued this for about 4 or 5 times. Up to this point, she hasn't really cared to have him in her space because he is so aggressive, but she has learned to defend herself and her toys from him so she isn't quite as crabby when he comes around. Kylin is now waving bye,bye and she plays "so big" with us. It is so fun to suddenly see her catching on to things so quickly. I have always worried a little more about Kylin developmentally, since she was hospitalized longer and was more sick than Preston in the beginning. On the eating front there is not much new to report. She is still getting Neosure (24 cal/oz) and we also give her Pediasure when she will drink it. She tends to really gag when we give her just Pediasure in all of her bottles, so I have been then giving the Neosure to decrease the calories a little and we then prevent vomitting. She will still eat tiny little bits of foods; cheese and noodles seem to be her favorites lately. If she doesn't want to eat, she very delicately picks up every piece of food on her tray and tosses it overboard onto the floor for Mom and Dad to clean up. Last weekend Grandma was here to help me paint Kylin's room a very bright pink. Uncle Mike and Dad don't care for the color, but it is very girly and once it's all put together I think it will be very cute!

Storytime

Standing alone (with toys as motivation)

In the picture above, Kylin is eating ravioli off of the floor. Some may call this disgusting (I agree), but if she shows the desire to eat by mouth I am not going to stop her (I do have my limits though).

Preston is doing well and he has also figured out how to stick out his tounge this weekend. Of course we think it's cute now, but soon it will be a different story I am sure. This past week, Preston was dancing to music on the radio with Dad and he suddenly decided to twirl in a circle. He can handle two turns and then he gets dizzy and has this glazed look in his eyes and plops on the floor for a second. He now goes to the kitchen to request food and drink. If he is anything like his Dad, he will be in the kitchen all of the time!!!! He walks into the kitchen and keeps saying "ah,ah, ah" until someone comes to feed him. He points to things and talks all of the time, but doesn't use any words to say what he wants. Preston has a few new favorite activities lately, the first one being pulling socks off of his feet and his sister's feet, he giggles everytime he is working to pull them off. The second game he plays is dumpster diving. Last weekend when Grandma was here, Kyle was eating an apple and then he threw the core in the garbage. Soon after the core went into the garbage, Preston came walking out to the livingroom with the apple core hanging out of his mouth (kind of a slap in the face to his germ phobe Mom). Preston's eating is going well and we are nearly weaned off of the bottle. I say we, because I love to snuggle with him while he drinks his bottle and so I am weaning myself also. On Friday night, we had grilled asparagus and Preston ate 3 spears of it. He is much better at eating his green vegis than his Mom ever was (until I became an adult). He now gives Kyle and I hugs when we ask for them, and he often just walks up and gives hugs at random. They are so nice to receive and to give back.

Toddler bootcamp

This past week we went in to get their monthly Synagis shot, and both kids were weighed. Kylin was just at 17 pounds, I was a little unsure of that weight, as everyone thinks she is looking chubbier in the cheeks and she also feels heavier to Kyle and I. Preston weighed 18 pounds 2 oz., he eats and eats and eats, but his energy level must exceed his calorie intake for the day. He is still my skinny little busy body!!! Their pedatrician isn't too concerned, because they are following their own curves and they aren't losing weight.

SHHHHH!!!!!

Weaning Preston off of bottles? I remember last year at this time when we were practically force feeding them, especially Kylin!
And Kylin, 17 pounds? Wow! They both look so big!!! Their faces are still the babies I remember, hard to believe I couldn't just pick them up and carry them around like I used to.
Congrats on two happy, healthy toddlers. Am glad things are going so well :) Think about them often...

Ha! I had to laugh about eating the ravioli off of the floor! I remember the day that Halle wanted to try an olive she had dropped - heck, if it's food, why not!? :) They are getting so big and cuter every day. I am really impressed with Kylin's eating. She's on her way to becoming tube-less!
